As everyone should be aware, this meeting and all future meeting this year are intended to be at a cost of £50.00 .
BACKGROUND
The President is keen that the membership of the society grows and remains a decent size group of golfers who will support the society at each meeting. Within his own club there were several previous members who cited that the cost of the day i.e £60.00 was too expensive and did not represent value for money, given that they had gone to Ashbury Manor for 3 days for £100.00.
Murray's response was to agree to make Presidents Day £50.00 for members and £55.00 for previous members who hadn't paid the subs due and for members guest. This would be extended to all meetings for 2025.
In order to be able to accommodate this figure, it means that only a prize for the winner of the singles and the winners of the team game will be given,
There will be no "Nearest to the pin" or closest to the flat in 2 .
The raffle will be stopped.
No Par 3 Competition and hence no winner of the Alan Bracey Trophy.
In short the day will consist of food and 18 holes of golf. For reasons stated later, the financial accounts of the South West Golf Society will not sufficient funds to provide any prizes at any of the meetings.
Financial Status of South West Transport Society.
The level of subsidy require for each meeting is high especially for the likes of Rushmoor Park,Cumberwll Park and Weston Super Mare.
With 23 Golfers going to Rushmoor Park, of which, three have paid the full cost of the day and the other three paying £55.00 the total amount which the society has to be pay is £325.00. This will leave the society with a balance of £998.78
If we apply the subsidy to the rest of the meeting and we assume 20 players play, the amounts the Society will be required to pay are
(a) Cumberwell Park - £250.00 (b) Oake Manor - £50.00 (c) Weston Suoer Mare - £440.00
TOTAL PAID BY SOCIETY TO KEEP THESE MEETING AT £50.00 PER PLAYER IS £700.00
Out of the balance of £298.78 we are required to provide prizes for the above meeting and leave a sufficient a balance to book next years courses .
It is clear that we will not have funds to do either.
Points to Consider:
(a) Part of the reason why the Society Day is £60.00 is due to the proposed and agreed motion that the raffle cost of £5 be added to each day and make it easier for everyone. If you remove this amount, this years courses are at best £5 more expensive that last year.
(b) The Society must hold a balance that makes it capable of being able to book future events.
(c) The cost of the food accounts for 40% of the day and is the part most volatile in being subject to price increase. Green Fees are fairly stable but as these haven't change over the last 2 years, it would be wrong to hope no price increase will occur next year.
(d) Do we just want food and 18 holes of golf with no competitions such as nearest to the pin? no raffle?
(e) Do we just want to play lower quality courses? Courses such as Bridport which 17 members enjoyed and expressed desire to return next year or Shebourne another favourite or any course in Bristol or Bath would be excluded
I would like as many members to express their thoughts on whether we want to continue with the proposed subsidy for this season or whether we retain the current arrangements .
