First Meeting Of The Season - Full of Interesting Holes and Comments

Season Underway for the South West Transport Golf Society

ree

The first meeting of the season got underway in glorious spring sunshine and breathtaking views. Painswick Golf Club is a welcoming club that offered the SWTGS a very warm welcome and great food. It is a very gentle introduction to the season and allowed 20 members of the society to meet up after the winter break and no doubt tell a few stories. The course itself was not in the perfect state as some members demanded but the variety of the holes kept everyone interested. The days competitions were keenly fought with Paul Claridge coming out the winner with 23 points playing off a handicap of 19! picking up the Continental Cup and the first prize. Steve Tottle was runner up with 22 points.

A special mention to Steve Tottle who brought along his guest Leslie Baker, has become a new member so welcome to Leslie and for Steve Tottle. a dozen titlelist balls for his introduction.

The afternoon winners were Paul Claridge and John Watkins with a score of 48 points and the runners up were Dave Buckland & Ade Meacham with 47 Points.

The Par 3 Competition is now underway and the early leader is John Watkins, but there is still a long way to go.

Our next meeting is "Presidents Day" and we hope to have a great turnout to support Murray on his day at his home club of Bream. For those who attend this meeting, a discount of £5.00 will be given against the cost of the meeting at Castle Coombe. It would be great to have 20+ people attend. Further details will be send out shortly.

Rules of Golf

it is also hoped that as a society that we adhere to the general playing rules of golf. From time to time administrative errors occurs and handicaps written on scorecards are incorrect. The player is responsible for signing the card with the correct score using the correct handicap. It is not an invitation to seek extra shots.

Since the beginning of last season, 3 competitions have been won by players using an incorrect handicap and this is unacceptable. It is not being fair to fellow society members. I am not talking about 1 short but more.

I intend to DISQUALIFY any card returned with an incorrect score based upon an incorrect handicap. It is your responsibility to make sure the handicap put on the card is correct.

Finally I will be sending out with the details of the next meeting, your order for the society shorts that were available for viewing at Painswick.

In the meanwhile enjoy the " Masters" and we will see you at Bream on Thursday 9 May 2019.
