New Course - New Gem - Long Sutton

Clearly, after taking no notice of the “No Children beyond this Point” sign displayed at the start of the path to the first tee, 25 golfers went out to play on what was a gem of a course – Long Sutton.

Basking yet again in glorious sunshine, Single Stableford was the battle order of the day (on account of 25 being a number not divisible by 2,3 or 4 and so no possible team game format).

The serene and rolling hills of the course complemented by the criss-cross patchwork of ditches and empty lakes seemed to provide more than enough resistance to most of the golfers who despite the almost perfect conditions, took full advantage of some wide sweeping fairways and well-prepared greens by producing no better than average scores.

Who can blame them for wanting to spend as much time as they could on such a beautiful course?

Of course, there are exceptions to every rule with Richard Lane cruising to victory with 20 points over the front 9 holes bringing all of his experience and guile to the fore.

Mike Monelle played consistently well throughout the day (Scoring 20 points on the front 9) and topped the overall field with an impressive 36 points, proving that consistency is the key.

A very well done to both of you!

On the Par 3 Greens competition, it seems that only John Watkins who is quickly developing a reputation for being the King of the Par 3’s was able to consistently write his name on the greenside card. Surprisingly, some holes had no winners!

Were the greens too tough?

Without doubt, the day was enjoyed by everyone and as is becoming the norm, the course was fantastic, the food was excellent but above all else, the enjoyment of each other’s company made the day another success.
